Welcome

…to the Managed Service Network (MSN).

The Managed Service Network for Neurosurgery was set up to ensure patients have equal access to high quality Neurosurgical care in Scotland. The Network supports the delivery and audit of services in the four Neurosurgical Units nationally: Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow, and Edinburgh.  The MSN reports to the Chief Medical Office annually.

The Service

Neurosurgery is a lower volume specialty service, treating patients with spinal, cranial, and brain conditions, ranging from spinal cord compression and traumatic brain injury, to tumours and hydrocephalus. There are an estimated 10,000 inpatient hospital stays per year for Neurosurgical patients in Scotland. Our focus is to improve the journey of care for our patients, regardless of where you are based in Scotland.

Our Role

We aim to improve outcomes for adult and paediatric Neurosurgical patients across Scotland, by ensuring equality of access; the provision of person-centred, safe, and high-quality care in each of the Neurosurgical Centres; to facilitate collaboration and clinical research; and the promotion and continual improvement of unified clinical standards nationwide.
